Queen Silver Star Excellence Program
About the program
The Queen Silver Star Excellence Program accepted their first candidates in 1960, with the first royalty crowned February 1961. This is a long tradition in the Vernon community, and has evolved over the years from a beauty pageant into an excellence and scholarship program
The program is available for young women ages 16 - 19 who live within the North Okanagan; those who reside in Vernon , Coldstream, Lavington, Lumby, and Armstrong. The six month program provides opportunity and experience to young ladies in our community and to give back to our wonderful city through various volunteer programs and events! From September - February, candidates will attend classes on an average of 2-3 times a week learning topics such as:
- Speech Craft
- Hair Care
- Automotive
- Self Defence
- History of Vernon
- Mural Tour
- History Tour
- Modeling
- Financial Planning
- Vernon Tourism
- Health and Fitness
- Dance
- Etiquette
- Make up / Skin Care
- Interview Skills
- Fitness
2013-14 Candidate Application Package
There are three main events to prepare for during the program, Fashion Show, Talent Show and Proclamation. A number of scholarships are also awarded with an approximate value of $6,600. Awards currently provided are:

- Top Fundraiser
- Knowledge of the City & runner up
- Congeniality
- Blossom
The Queen Silver Star Excellence Program also teaches young ladies other life skills such as, time management, standard business etiquette and balancing school and personal commitments. Candidates will experience a variety of community events, attend a City Council meeting and become a role model for Little Miss Winter Carnival candidates. Each year candidates leave the program having gained valuable skills that will last them a life time.
If chosen as a Vernon Ambassador, the Queen and Princess travel throughout the province from March - September promoting the City of Vernon. They also become role models within the community and attend a variety events throughout the year.

On January 31, 2012 Miss White House Mortgages Antonya Crosby was proclaimed Princess Silver Star and Miss Durning Directions, Emily Pfannschmidt as Queen Silver Star 53rd.

$5,600 in scholarship money was awarded to the candidates and the retired royalty also received a scholarship for completing their reign. These are the results:
