Vernon Winter Carnival will be faster than a speeding bullet and able to jump tall buildings in a single bound.
The theme for 2014 will be Carnival of Superheroes Presented by Fix Auto Collision.
“There were more than 40 theme suggestions from the community and there was deliberation over a number of different ideas,” said executive director Brittany Sjoblom.
Winter Carnival comes to a close
The Vernon Winter Carnival Society would like to express thanks to our sponsors, volunteers, event organizers, various media and to the community for supporting the 53rd annual Prehistoric Carnival Presented by Fix Auto Collision. This past Carnival was a tremendous success and it is attributed to so many great people from our wonderful city.
This year 7 events sold out and a number of events came very close! Our Balloon Fiesta had better weather this year and only missed one flight during the weekend. The parade was fortunate to have a nice day as well and the entries looked great, it is always a pleasure to see the work that so many volunteers put into the decorating.
A new event Winter Carnival put on this year was the Winter Carnival Family Day in Polson park on the second Saturday. The weather was absolutely beautiful and warm, there were hundreds of people who came out with their families to take part in free games and took home some great prizes. We look forward to running this event again and thank everyone who participated. We had some great sponsors for this event, we would like to thank Allan Francis Pringle Lawyers, Regional District of North Okanagan, Save On Foods, Sun Fm, Downtown Vernon Association and Funtastic Sports Society.
Another great addition to this years Carnival was Appetizers and Art. We were able to bring this event back with the support from the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage Program, Department of Canadian Heritage. To close up Winter Carnival Sunday night this event featured 8 local artists showcasing their skills and works of art to over 120 guests at the Village Green Hotel. There was a variety of interactive art, visual and of course delicious food! It was a pleasure to speak with the different artists and learn more about their works of art. Thank you to everyone who attended and a special thanks to the Department of Canadian Heritage for funding this event.
